HEAVYWEIGHT SINGLE JERSEY · MODAL BLEND
ORANGE SINGLE JERSEY FABRIC
56% Modal  ·  41% Polyester  ·  3% Spandex  ·  350 GSM  ·  155 CM

The Orange Single Jersey Fabric is a heavyweight circular-knit built on a modal-dominant blend for programs that need fabric mass without synthetic stiffness. The formulation of 56% Modal, 41% Polyester, and 3% Spandex produces a 350 GSM jersey with a substantial, dense hand-feel that holds shape in unstructured silhouettes. Modal contributes softness and a deep dye response that suits saturated orange tones, while polyester adds dimensional stability and reduces the fiber cost of the blend. The 3% spandex fraction is deliberately low, providing just enough recovery to prevent sagging without turning the fabric into a compression knit. At 155 CM cut width, the fabric suits standard marker planning for tops, dresses, and sweatshirts.

WHY THE BLEND MATTERS
Modal for Dye Depth
Modal cellulose accepts reactive dyes with high color yield, giving saturated orange shades a depth that pure polyester struggles to reproduce. The fiber also contributes a smooth, cool surface against the skin.
Polyester for Structure
The 41% polyester fraction stabilizes the knit, limiting the growth and distortion that modal-heavy jerseys can develop in heavy weights. It also improves resistance to creasing during packing and transit.
Low Spandex, Controlled Recovery
Three percent elastane supports shape retention without imposing compression. This keeps the fabric positioned for sweatshirts, dresses, and relaxed tops rather than performance compression garments.
350 GSM Body
At 350 GSM the jersey carries enough mass to drape with weight and hold clean hems. It reduces the need for double layering in sweatshirt and dress programs, simplifying garment construction.
SPECIFICATION TABLE
Composition 56% Modal / 41% Polyester / 3% Spandex

Hand-Feel Dense, soft face with body
Stretch Moderate, elastane assisted
FABRIC BEHAVIOR
Drape Character
The 350 GSM weight produces a heavy, fluid drape rather than a structured stand. Expect garments to fall close to the body with clean vertical lines.
Surface Finish
The jersey face is smooth and matte. Modal contributes a slight sheen under direct light, which reads as depth rather than gloss on saturated orange.
Shrinkage Tendency
Modal blends move more than pure polyester on first wash. Pre-shrinking or cutting allowance is advisable for programs with tight finished measurements.
Moisture Response
Modal absorbs moisture readily while polyester resists it, producing a blended behavior: the fabric feels dry initially but releases moisture more slowly than pure synthetic jersey.
Pilling Risk
Modal fiber in a heavy jersey can pill at abrasion points over extended wear. Surface finishing at the mill and appropriate care labeling reduce the risk in retail use.
Thermal Hand
The fabric mass gives a warm initial touch, positioning it for transitional-season garments rather than summer-weight programs.
PROGRAM APPLICATIONS
Heavyweight Sweatshirts
Pullovers and crewnecks where 350 GSM gives structure without the bulk of fleece-backed fabrics.
Knit Dresses
Body-skimming dresses and tunics where the heavy drape supports clean silhouettes.
Relaxed Tops
Boxy tees and oversize tops requiring a dense hand-feel and saturated color.
Loungewear Sets
Coordinated sets where modal softness supports extended skin contact.
CUT AND SEW NOTES
01 Needle: Ballpoint 75/11 to 80/12. The heavy modal jersey requires a slightly larger ball point to avoid filament damage along seam lines.
02 Stitch: Four-thread overlock with balanced differential feed. Cover stitch for hems where a clean edge is required.
03 Relaxation: Allow 24 to 48 hours of open relaxation. Heavy jersey with modal content releases tension slowly and can shift dimensions after unrolling.
04 Pressing: Steam lightly from distance. Direct pressing on the modal face can create shine marks that are difficult to remove.
05 Washing: Cold to warm wash with neutral detergent. Avoid chlorine bleach, which degrades both modal and elastane.
BUYER INQUIRIES
How does modal content affect laundering recommendations?
Modal is sensitive to high agitation and high heat. Cold to warm wash, low spin, and air drying preserve the fiber surface and reduce pilling. Tumble drying on high heat accelerates surface fuzz and should be avoided for retail programs.
Will orange shade shift between production lots?
Orange sits in a sensitive region of the color space where small dyestuff variations read clearly to the eye. Retain a physical standard and confirm each lot under the intended retail lighting. Modal and polyester dye at different rates, so blend consistency matters as much as dye recipe control.
Is 3% spandex enough for fitted garments?
Three percent elastane provides recovery and shape retention but not compression. The fabric suits fitted but not compression garments. For high-stretch applications, a higher elastane content would be required.
What is the expected shrinkage after the first wash?
Modal blends typically show measurable length shrinkage on first wash, more than pure polyester jersey. Cutting allowance or pre-shrinking should be planned. Confirm against your wash standard during sampling before bulk commitment.
Can this fabric be garment dyed after sewing?
Garment dyeing a modal-polyester-spandex blend produces uneven uptake because the three fibers respond differently to dye classes. The fabric is intended for piece-dyed stock. Post-garment dyeing is not recommended.
