Sustainability Fabrics Industry Knowledge
Haining Yitai Knitting Co., Ltd. has manufactured performance knit fabric since 2004 from our base in the Warp Knitting Zone of Haining City, Zhejiang. Our Sustainable Clothing Fabrics Manufacturers range covers recycled nylon, recycled polyester and Sorona-based knits engineered for sportswear, activewear, swimwear and intimate apparel programmes.
We hold GRS certification covering recycled content, chain of custody and responsible production practice, and we build each quality around the working point the garment has to survive: stretch recovery, wash shrinkage, pilling, colourfastness and moisture behaviour.
What Our Sustainable Range Covers
Our sustainability collection is a working library of recycled and bio-based knit constructions rather than a single cloth. The range spans single jersey, weft interlock, rib, wrap knit, jacquard, fleece, mesh and printed jersey, in weights from roughly 150 GSM to 330 GSM and usable widths around 150 to 170 cm.
Because the same recycled polymer can be knitted into a featherweight mesh or a dense interlock, we treat construction and finishing as the variables that decide whether a sustainable fabric performs like its virgin equivalent. Our R&D group and dyeing and finishing facility work on that parity from the first sample.
Recycled Nylon & Spandex
High-recovery knits for swimwear, yoga and compression styles where snap-back and chlorine or salt resistance matter.
Recycled Polyester Jersey
Single jersey, interlock and pique for teamwear, training tops and casual ranges with wicking and colourfastness requirements.
Bio-Based & Blended Knits
Sorona and blended constructions for soft-hand, warm-touch and thermal underwear applications.
Where Each Construction Fits
Application fit drives the specification. A swim brief, a yoga legging and a team training shirt all demand different loop geometry, elastane content and finishing route, even when they share the same recycled feedstock.
| Construction | Typical Weight / Width | Primary Application | Key Property |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weft single jersey, recycled nylon/spandex | 175 GSM / 154 cm | Activewear, swim lining, yoga tops | 4-way stretch, smooth hand |
| Solid weft interlock, recycled nylon/spandex | 220 GSM / 156 cm | Leggings, teamwear, compression layers | Opacity, dimensional stability |
| Wrap knit, poly/nylon/spandex | 155 GSM / 150 cm | Swimwear, beachwear, fashion active | Colour depth, drape |
| Cationic single jersey | 280 GSM / 155 cm | Heavy activewear, casual knits | Two-tone effect, body |
| Rib, recycled nylon/spandex | 75% nylon / 25% spandex | Cuffs, waistbands, trims | Elastic recovery, trim matching |
| Sorona knit | Bio-based blend | Soft-touch casual, loungewear | Warm hand, low pilling |
Recycled Performance Against Virgin Fibre
Mechanical recycling shortens fibre length, so the base polymer and the knitting route decide whether a recycled knit holds its shape. We source GRS-certified polymers with high molecular weight and knit at controlled low tension so the loop structure keeps its memory through repeated wear and washing.
- Tensile strength: our premium recycled series targets ≥ 380 N against ≥ 400 N for comparable virgin fabric.
- Colourfastness to washing: grade 4.0–4.5, with precision temperature-controlled dyeing to even out recycled fibre uptake.
- Pilling resistance at 2,000 revolutions: grade 4.0, supported by high-gauge knitting that densifies the surface.
- Elongation recovery: ≥ 95%, with fabric growth after 50 washes held below 2.5% on low-tension constructions.
- Bursting strength: ≥ 420 kPa, giving cutting rooms a predictable base for pattern grading.
Configuration Options We Build Into an Order
Every sustainable quality is configured around the garment, not pulled from a fixed list. We adjust the following variables during sampling so the bulk fabric matches the approved swatch.
- Fibre blend: recycled polyester, recycled nylon, Sorona, cationic polyester, elastane and blended ratios.
- Weight and width: GSM and usable width set to the marker plan and cutting efficiency.
- Surface: solid, matt, jacquard, mesh, fleece, foil print, sublimation print or engineered placement print.
- Function: moisture wicking, anti-static, anti-bacterial deodorising, warmth retention and breathability finishes.
- Colour: lab-dip matching to your reference, with bulk shade continuity across rolls.
Quality Control and Acceptance
Recycled feedstock varies more than virgin polymer, so our quality control system inspects every batch for fibre consistency, construction and chemical safety before it is released. Testing follows the limits agreed at sampling rather than a single hand-feel judgement.
| Property | Method Reference | Typical Acceptance Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Fabric weight (GSM) | Circular cutter, 3 samples | Within 5% of agreed specification |
| Dimensional change | AATCC 135 / ISO 6330, 3 washes | 5% max in length and width |
| Pilling resistance | Martindale, 2,000 rubs | Grade 3–4 and above |
| Colourfastness to washing | AATCC 61 | Grade 4 or higher |
| Wicking (active styles) | AATCC 197, 30 minutes | 80 mm or more rise |
| Stretch recovery | ASTM D4964 | Residual set within 3 mm |
GRS documentation and transaction certificates follow the material through the supply chain, so brands can substantiate recycled content claims on labelling and in green trade submissions.
Related Ranges in Our Collection
Sustainable qualities are frequently specified alongside our application-specific ranges, and we match colour and hand across them so a single garment programme can draw from more than one collection.
- Yoga Wear Fabrics — high-stretch, squat-proof knits with soft hand and recovery.
- Activewear Fabrics — wicking jersey, interlock and mesh for training and running.
- Swimwear & Beachwear Fabrics — chlorine-resistant nylon/spandex and wrap knits.
- Underwear, team sportswear and casual wear knits complete the full fabric range.
Information We Use to Configure Your Solution
A quotation that holds up in bulk starts from the garment and the line, not from a catalogue number. The following inputs let us select the construction, finishing route and test plan before we send a proposal.
- End use and garment type, including whether the style is next-to-skin, outer layer or trim.
- Target GSM, usable width and stretch direction, plus any opacity requirement.
- Fibre preference and minimum recycled content percentage for labelling.
- Colour reference, lab-dip requirement and shade continuity expectations across rolls.
- Performance targets: shrinkage after three washes, pilling grade, colourfastness and wicking.
- Care label conditions, since wash temperature and tumble drying drive the finishing route.
- Order quantity per colour, roll length and packing preference for the cutting room.
- Certification and documentation needs, including GRS transaction certificates.
Sampling, Delivery and Ongoing Supply
We develop from your drawings, tech pack or physical sample, then confirm the working point on a lab dip and a yardage sample before bulk. Once a quality is approved, the construction and finishing parameters are recorded so repeat orders knit to the same target.
Rolls are inspected, measured and packed to the agreed scope, with shade bands and roll lengths documented for the cutting table. Spare capacity for repeat colours and continuity of the approved quality are part of how we support long-running programmes rather than one-off drops.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does recycled content reduce fabric performance?
Not when the polymer grade and knitting route are controlled. We source GRS-certified polymers with high molecular weight and knit at low, stable tension, which keeps elastic recovery at ≥ 95% and holds fabric growth after 50 washes below 2.5% on our low-tension constructions. Tensile and bursting strength sit close to comparable virgin fabric.
Which sustainable fabrics suit swimwear and activewear?
Recycled nylon/spandex weft single jersey and wrap knits are the usual choice for swim and beachwear because they hold colour and recover after stretching. For activewear, recycled polyester interlock and single jersey give the opacity, wicking and pilling resistance that training and teamwear styles need.
Can you match a colour and hand feel from an existing garment?
Yes. Send the reference garment or swatch with the target GSM and stretch, and we will develop a lab dip and a yardage sample. Our dyeing and finishing facility uses precision temperature-controlled vats and eco-friendly levelling agents so recycled nylon and polyester reach consistent, vibrant shades.
What documentation supports recycled content claims?
Our GRS certification covers processing, manufacturing, packaging, labelling, trading and distribution of products made with a minimum of 20% recycled material. Transaction certificates follow the material through the supply chain, giving brands traceable evidence for labelling and compliance submissions.
What do you need to quote a sustainable knit programme?
The garment type and end use, target GSM and width, fibre and recycled content preference, colour reference, performance targets such as shrinkage and pilling limits, care label conditions, and quantity per colour. With those inputs we select the construction and finishing route and confirm the test plan in the proposal.
How do you keep repeat orders consistent?
Approved construction and finishing parameters are recorded against the quality, and every batch is inspected for fibre consistency, GSM, shade and chemical safety before release. That record is what keeps a reorder knitting to the same working point as the original approval.
