Sourcing Checks and GSM Tolerances

GSM moves through finishing: relaxation, heat-setting, compacting, and brushing all push the final number. The typical commercial tolerance is plus/minus 5 percent. For a 160 GSM fabric, that means a delivery between 152 and 168 GSM is defensible. Outside that band, the cause is usually an inconsistent finishing line or a swap in yarn count.

Confirm the weight state the mill is quoting - loom state, finished state, or after wash.
Cut circular samples across the full fabric width, not only near the edge, because edges and centers can differ by several grams.
Weigh conditioned samples per ISO 3801 or ASTM D3776 and average at least three readings.
